In August 2004 I headed to Southern Africa with one of my best friends to predominately go camping in National Parks, including “wild camping” in Botswana (i.e. not in a dedicated camping ground). Every day was an adventure and it was just like living in a wildlife documentary for a month.
Imagine being awoken by Elephants in your camp, Hyenas patrolling the outskirts of your camp, Lions roaring in the distance at night, seeing a huge herd of Elephants crossing a river, White Rhino so close they are sniffing your clothes, angry Elephants chasing your Land Rover or discovering that Baboons had done a “raid” and stolen all the corn! Then there were the adventure activities – white water rafting, shark cage diving, elephant riding and ultralight flight over Victoria Falls (with huge Crocodiles and Hippos clearly visible far below). Such an amazing and exciting journey!
