The Wimmera’s Pink Lake

December 31st, 2010

Pink Lake is located near Dimboola in the Wimmera region of  Victoria, Australia.

The colour on this day was particularly bright.

The pink colour comes from a pigment secreted by microscopic algae.

The salt lake makes an amazing and unusual sight.

At first when I read the title I thought it’s a lake full of flamingos. But I never thought that the color is actually caused by pink algae! What a cool place!

No Flamingoes, but I think it is the same reason they end up being pink 🙂
