Cape Buffalo

The Cape or African Buffalo is a creature to respect. Big and mean, you do not mess with a Buffalo. The average weight of a Buffalo is 425 kg to 870 kg (935 to 1,910 pounds) and the  bulls are at least 100 kg (220 pounds) heavier than the cows. Big beasts, they roam in herds and with those large horns offer a formidable defence against would be predators (they may charge as a herd if provoked and can run at high speeds over a short distance)! The bad boy of Africa!

Stare down (from a safe distance)

If they come for you, run like the wind and head for the trees was the advice received from a park ranger in Botswana. Good to know!
