The African Elephant is the largest land animal. A bull male Elephant can stand up to 4 metres (13 ft) tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 6,350 kg (14,000 lbs). A big bull is an impressive beast!

African Elephants roam far and wide to find enough food to keep them going. To sustain their sheer size an Elephant can eat up to 136 kg (300 lbs) of food in a day including grass, leaves, roots, fruit and other organic matter.

Kruger National Park in South Africa provided plenty of opportunities to see big bulls. Generally speaking Elephants are herd animals but males generally go solo or are seen in small bachelor groups. These guys were such examples.

Their sheer size can be overwhelming when up close

Seeing an Elephant in the wild is an amazing experience. They seem so gentle for their massive size, but as we all know they can also be incredible aggressive in defending their territory and herd. Always keep a safe distance!
