The Big Bench of Broken Hill

Atop the massive mullock heap known as The Line of Lode (the worlds largest silver, lead and zinc mineral deposit) in the outback New South Wales mining town of Broken Hill sits the Big Bench. In Australia we love big things and at 2.5 times the size of a normal park bench this art installation fits the bill.

I guess the fence was meant to keep people off the art installation but not surprisingly it isn’t overly effective!

The sun sets on the Big Bench – you can just see the Pinnacles off on the horizon

Normally these big things are a popular roadside tourist attraction but this one is a bit of an exception being atop the mullock heap. At sunset it makes for a picturesque spot overlooking the town and the Pinnacles off in the distance.
