Singapore in 5 Photos

I recently spent 5 months travelling around South East Asia, across 6 countries: Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Sultanate of Brunei, the Philippines and Indonesia. I messed up the symmetry there but at one stage I was looking at travelling 6 months across 7 countries, so it would never have worked out!

I thought I would have a crack at summing up my journey in just 5 photos for each country. Singapore was my starting point from Australia and my point of return, so here goes (it should be the easiest as I was only there for a few days each time!)…

Haw Par Villa, the old Tiger Balm Gardens Singapore Monkey Magic
Monkey Magic at Haw Par Villa, the old Tiger Balm Gardens (opened in 1937) is a fantastically kitsch theme park of sorts, with hundreds of dioramas and statues about Chinese and Buddhist legends, folklore and more! (January 2018)

Former Ford Factory Singapore British Surrender Site 1942
The art deco Ford Factory was completed in Singapore in 1941 but did not produce any cars until after WW2. With the impending 1942 Japanese invasion it was being used to assemble aircraft for the RAF and vehicles for the British Army. It became a Japanese HQ and the Ford boardroom was where the Japanese forced the British commanders to surrender Singapore on February 15th, 1942. The Japanese used the factory to assemble military vehicles. 2 years after the war ended, Ford finally produced cars there until the factory closed in 1980. It reopened in 2017 as a Singapore National Archives museum covering the buildup to war, the Japanese occupation and post war independence (June 2018)
