Collingwood Housing Estate Mural by Adnate

Artist Adnate completed the tallest mural in the southern hemisphere in October 2018 and it looks fantastic! Commissioned by street art collective Juddy Roller and the Victorian state government, the artists largest work to date depicts four residents of the 20 storey high Collingwood Housing Estate on which the giant mural is painted upon.

The 1960’s era Collingwood Housing Estate is located on Wellington Street, Collingwood in Melbourne, Victoria. The residents in the mural from top to bottom are five year old Ni Na Nguyen, Badria Abdo a grandmother refugee from Ethiopia, six year old Arden Watson-Cropley and Yulius Antares Taime from West Papua, Indonesia – they represent the different ages and cultures of people that live in the housing estate.

I first saw the Collingwood Housing Estate Mural as a work in progress in September 2018. At that stage just the two middle faces had been completed.

Another big art project I have seen by Adnate is on the Wimmera-Mallee Silo Art Trail at Sheep Hills. I have also spotted his hard to miss work above Hosier Lane in Melbourne and less easier to find smaller mural in Adelaide, South Australia. All feature Indigenous Australians.

If you go to see the Collingwood Housing Estate Mural don’t miss the excellent street art that is adorned across the streets and laneways of Collingwood and nearby Fitzroy. The abundant street art makes for an excellent day of urban exploring!
