The Waikerie Silo Art Mural is located in the heart of the town of Waikerie on the Murray River in South Australia. The theme of the big double silo project is “Healthy River, Healthy Community“. The Murray River means everything to the local community who have supported the project, which has been funded by the South Australian Government and supported by Nature Foundation SA.

The silo art is split across two silos and has been painted by artists Jimmy Dvate and Garry Duncan. As of December 2018 the mural is three-quarters complete, with just the rear of one silo to be completed by artist Garry Duncan – his cartoonish wildlife images on the silos are really cool and quite amusing!

Jimmy Dvate is well-known for his photo realistic images of Australian wildlife and scenery. His art at Waikerie includes a huge Cherax Destructor aka Yabby, a Murray Hardyhead fish and a beautiful looking Regent Parrot. He has also completed silo art projects and street art in Victoria including at Rochester and Goorambat.

Like in neighbouring Victoria, silo art projects are starting to pop up across South Australia. For now the only other one I have seen in this state is at Coonalpyn. They are well worth a road trip to see them!
